Unfair

It doesn’t come with ease.

They tell you that
“life isn’t fair” with gusto,
with pleasing remorse.
They tell you that nothing will change.

Are you at ease? Do you feel me?

I feel the chatter
and short intakes of breath.
To “erase clean” would mean
to wipe the static
and remove the good from all the good.

So it isn’t fair,
but nothing comes with ease.
